Winter Olympics may be a bit harder to name three medalists (Ohno, Shawn White, Lindsey Vonn?) but I think people generally follow the summer Olympics more than the winter since generally most of us in the US have played or competed in one of the summer Olympic sports as a kid… Or maybe I’m just a freak

I love this, from the Chargers and Padres to the Cardinals, Suns and D-Backs I feel like a very battered fan. I have 1 championship under my belt as a sports fan in my 29 years (01 WS D-backs). And a few more before I buy the farm would be nice or at least pretend like you’re trying(Padres & Suns). Good work Nix, I look forward to following your writting.

Eh—While I agree Gordon will be matched, Suns fans have to remember a similar situation with Joe Johnson and why he was not matched by the suns…and while in hindsight the first Dragic deal was horrible, insiders insist he can play the 2 as well as the point (imagine a mini version of manu). Theoretically, you can throw a lineup out there of Marshall, Dragic, Beasely, Fry, Gortat….or if by chance we do get Gordon a Lineup of Dragic, Gordon, Beasley, Frye, Gortat with Marshall, Dudley, Morris coming off the bench….At least we have youth to go along with zero talent…While this comment is meant to mainly play devils adv. bc we all know Sarver is one of the worst owners in the league and this front office has no idea what to do– but we all know Sarver could not afford to sit on the sideline and do nothing with all of the cap space (while it would have been the correct thing to do), the casual fan would simply think he is not trying by not spending. ….If gordon somehow gets here, then next year we amnesty Childress and have enough money for one more max player….Future is bleak but not as what it was when we started this off season

I typically don’t judge a draft until the players have played a season or two, that however is not the case anymore with the Suns, I thought their first pick last year would be a bust, I was wrong he actually played OK. I have no idea what to think of this pick other than when I watched UNC on TV he never really impressed me.
Who do you think the Suns should have taken?

Nice article, but theres a can of worms you should open up while you are on this topic. Thats the fact that, scholarship or not, when 90% of these football players graduate, the chances of them finding a good job is highly unlikely. Besides being really good at following directions and being puntual, their isn’t really a trained skill that football players can carry over to everyday life.
I was a white scholarship football player at a major university that had opportunities to play in the nfl. When i decided to hang up the cleats, i struggled to find a job that paid well and that wasn’t in sales and that paid my bills. I felt lost and robbed, and I’m a white guy with a college degree! Then i have my former black teammates, who for the most part are unemployed or are working at a youth center making less than 20k a year. Battered fan, you are not a regular student athlete, you are the exception, so you might not be able to relate this.
So instead of a 2k stipend, or sharing part of the money with the players, why not help these players find a job? Or help them develop a trade? Give a man 2k and he’ll eat for a month, teach him how to make 2k and eat for a like time, get what I’m saying?
Don’t focus on the money, but rather preparing football players for life after football.

No Credit is due here. The big 3 danced on stage, pissed on Cleveland, and made promises they couldn’t keep. I’m surprised they didn’t have a reality tv show. They said they would bring a championship ring to Miami in year 1. They didn’t. Had they humbly entered Miami (like Allen-Garnet in Boston) and then won a championship, then yes, in that case credit would be due.

In college, I once made an ass out of myself and told all of my friends that I was going to drink a 5th of tequila in one day. I was cocky and confident about it. Turn’s out, I didn’t do it, and in turn, one of my buddies punched me in the stomach, and I threw up everywhere at a party. People laughed at me. The following week, I tried it, and I did it. No punches were thrown, and not one pat on the back was given. I was fine with that, and I felt that I did not deserve any credit. At that point, I was merely trying to save face.

A 5th of tequila for one man and the NBA finals for the big 3 in comparison are very different, but the principle (please correct my grammar if wrong form) is the same.

J-BoW (James-Bosh-Wade) are saving face. That’s that.

Food for thought, what do you think would happen to the Charlotte Bobcat’s if they hired Jackson, Rielly, and Popovich as their Head & Assistant coach’s? Same result as the “player” big 3? Bankruptcy?

While I am definitely not a Heat fan, I do give credit where credit is due. My third post ever was on LeBron, in which I simultaneously criticized his past actions while praising his present greatness. I didn’t need the Heat to be up 3-1 in the NBA Finals to do that. Have a read:

And yes, while I was cringing like everyone else during The Decision, I have since grown to appreciate this Heat team for what they are – really good. Two years together, two finals appearances. Maybe one title. The Heat seem to be living up to expectations.

Aww yes, this is much better! Rather than listening to all the critics talk about how the failure of the big 3, we now get to hear the battered fans of this world who are going to praise the decision and claim that that wa their stance the entire time even though they know damn well that they themselves sat and watched “the announcement” while cringing t how ridiculously overhyped it all was. Sure, you write this story rehab they are up 3-1 in the finals so you can claim this was your stance before they even won the championship. I guess that was pretty smart of you considering every other writer is just going to blatantly lie in tomorrows papers when they try to make the same claim. Well played battered fan (if only your hand wasn’t so transparent).

U of A…mazing: I don’t feel like I retracted/contradicted any of my previous statements. What I actually said was “Steroids can make you bigger, stronger, faster, and able to recover more quickly. One of the biggest factors in being a successful baseball player is one’s ability to recover on a day to day basis.” I never said quicker recovery was THE single ‘greatest benefit’ of PEDs, but simply one of MANY. So yes – the combination of a player being bigger, stronger, faster, and able to recover more quickly can indeed help an individual hit more home runs. No contradiction.

So just to be clear…. You are retracting your statement made in the original post when you stated that the greatest benefit of peds was the quickened recovery of muscles from game to game in a long season that requires endurance and health to now saying the greatest benefit of using peds is giving an individual the ability to hit home runs? Just seems to be a bit contradictory to me.

Thank you for the re-post, I am glad that you agree that pitchers gained an advantage as well. I just did a little research on John Rocker and it’s astounding how much his steroid use improved his ERA while with Atlanta. But due to his prolonged use of PEDs you can see how he quickly deteriorated like lindsay Logan’s acting career, also much like Barry Bonds final playing years.

On another note, we deem many other PEDs in our life as acceptable like coffee, Viagra, rogaine, and 5 hour energy. Is it wrong for the public and the professional sports administrators to outlaw PED use in professional sports? And suspend players without out pay if found guilty?

If Barry bonds is going to have an asterisk next to his name in the record books, then so should Lexington steel for his Viagra use in the porn industry which led to many porn awards, as well my sales associate Alex for drinking an excessive amount of coffee and red bull to the point where he forces himself to work 16 hours a day just to win the award of salesmen of the month for the last 5 months.

I feel strongly about this topic for many reasons, I love home runs, I watch wwe, I’d much rather see a juiced up Brian Cushing than a flabby one, I miss the bird man and marinovich for both the same reasons as you probably know. Bottom line, let the players use PEDs if they want to.
